Rabbi

As an interfaith chaplain at Hebrew SeniorLife since 2014, beginning in Home Hospice, Rabbi Joel Baron now provides spiritual and emotional support to the residents of Orchard Cove. He teaches and he ministers to those who are troubled, as well as to the sick and dying and their families. He likens caring for his patients to “standing on holy ground.”
Rabbi Baron is co-author of Deathbed Wisdom of the Hasidic Masters: The Book of Departure and Caring for People at the End of Life (Jewish Lights Publishing, 2016).
Prior to becoming a rabbi, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career in scientific and medical publishing; serving as publisher or chief executive officer of the New England Journal of Medicine, the North American edition of The Lancet, and other renowned journals before forming his own consulting firm. In his publishing roles, Rabbi Baron was a leader in developing industry-wide technologies that have become instrumental in supporting access to online medical and scientific information.
When Rabbi Baron was ordained in 2014, at 71, he became the oldest person ever ordained a rabbi in North America.
